Meet Alexandria Zegers

Alexandria completed her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. She then completed her master’s degree in social work at Indiana University in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Clinical Experience
Alexandria is a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) and has experience providing individual, family, and group therapy over the past two years. She has experience working in a wide variety of settings including the department of child services, school-based, home-based, inpatient, and addiction treatment. Alexandria is skilled in working with individuals of all ages, but specifically children and adolescents. She has experience working with a variety of backgrounds and mental health needs, as well as experience working with families through family therapy, and couples counseling as well.

Therapeutic Approach
Alexandria believes in providing a safe, non-judgmental, empathetic, and supportive therapeutic role while continuing to challenge the client to take responsibility for his/her own mental health and helping to create and achieve mental health goals of their own. Her theoretical approach is mostly cognitive-behavioral, but also incorporates the foundations of solution-focused and strengths-based perspectives as well. She believes in a therapeutic relationship that encompasses acceptance, collaboration, authenticity, but also the understanding of where the individual is in life. Alexandria full-heartedly believes that therapy is formed on the understanding that it is a dual-relationship and requires both parties have a voice within the therapeutic process. She also believes it is important to help clients accomplish therapeutic goals at a pace in which they are most comfortable. She strives to help clients see they are never alone and to never lose sight of hope for change. Alexandria seeks to help clients understand and acknowledge the strength and bravery it takes to begin therapy, and in doing so, she works hard to build a trusting, safe, and collaborative relationship between herself and each of her clients. She works to not only facilitate an environment for healing and growth for clients but also to empower and teach clients the importance of advocation for themselves to reach their goals.

Alexandria provides evidence-based practices that best fit within the goals of the clients and families she works with. She views herself as a “lifelong learner” and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. She values continuing education and expanding her knowledge regarding counseling techniques and evidence-based practices.
